Dr Bob and Sinuphant

SINUPHANT?

Apparently Sinuphant is the mascot for some kind of sinus medication. The hat/ice pack/IDK is really weird. That's one strange costume...

The button on the bottom is for the Fresh Air Fund of New York, that sends inner city kids to camps out in the country for the summer to get them some encounters with nature other than pigeons and groomed parks.

The Ear Tag Project at MFF.

Greetings everyone.

MFF has come and gone. I’m still trying to get things back to normal.

I wanted to thank everyone who donated towards the project. I have a ton of cardboard cut out and will be assembling the packages soon to mail out the remaining donation tags in between the house transition that’s been happening at home.

For those wondering what the project was about, it was inspired from a number of things. Partly Codex from a random conversation involving being silly and pondering if someone put a “Made In China” tag on fursuits, the Dorsai’s tag and release, and the large present tags that were at Megaplex this year.

About each tag. )

What's does the stuff on the front and back of the tags mean? )

Notification System

**EDIT Wed Dec 9 00:28:16 UTC 2009 **

The notification system has been fixed in the new release... we are currently processing the queue, which is upwards of 12m jobs... please bear with us while our workers chew through this large queue and get your notification / emails out. Some may come more quickly than others due to weights on the notifications themselves, but we are hoping in the next 24 hours to have all the queues cleared and all notifications delivered that had been queued up over the past few days.

Again I apologize for this inconvenience, but we are almost out of the woods as soon as we are done clear cutting some of the forest ;)

Thanks,

** END EDIT**

Hey Guys,

Unfortunately with our last release, and its instability, we were forced to roll back releases. Unfortunately in doing so, it would seem that our notification system has been broken somehow. Our engineers are working on this issue as quickly as possible. We hope to have a patch within the next day, so we can deploy our code and fix the notification system at the same time. Please *bear* with us ;)

Currently all notifications are being queued up so they can be processed as soon as the fix is pushed and verified to be working correctly.

Thank you,

Freedom Ends Today

Well, the EPA will do it today. They are going to declare CO2 and other "greenhouse gases" as "Dangerous Pollutants" at 1:15PM EST.

This despite them being normal parts of the atmosphere, being emitted by the planet itself, by every living creature, etc.

This isn't a first. Years ago they declared salt and dust in the air pollutants, sending seashore and desert communities into a no-win battle to meet air standards.

It shouldn't come as a surprise. Months ago they tipped their hand with the finding that dogs were worse carbon emitters than SUVs, the Great Satan of "environmentalists."

This means that the EPA will now be able to directly regulate each person's activities and possessions, including their animal "load". Carbon "fines" will be assessed on anyone who exceeds the "limit" they will establish. Businesses will be the first hit - including farms.

This comes despite the debunking of climate research 2 weeks ago and the resignation of prime "scientists" in the scandal. Obama and the EPA clearly hope to strike before the Copenhagen conference and before anyone can block their moves.

This will be the most drastic and major move in history as it affects EVERY activity we engage in, down to breathing.

We were warned but media and many idiots supported it. They bought the panic and refused to see the danger.

On their heads be it.

Would You Like To Take a Survey?

As promised at Closing Ceremonies, we have posted a Feedback Survey for Midwest FurFest 2009 at http://www.furfest.org/survey

We would appreciate you taking the time to fill out the survey and help let us know what worked, what didn't, and how we can continue to make Midwest FurFest the best convention we possibly can! Just to sweeten the deal, we're throwing in a little bonus - one respondent's name will be chosen at random to receive a free night's stay at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare, to be used any time before November 22, 2010 (which means you can use it at Midwest FurFest 2010!). Participation in the drawing requires you to enter your contact information, but it is strictly optional and is not required to complete the survey. We look forward to your responses, and thank you for your help in improving Midwest FurFest!

A closed meeting on openness

Here's two newslinks, both displaying the same Associated Press story

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5joOOsTVD57lFwm_InpZY_nRbg4KQD9CDRVOO0
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091206/ap_on_go_pr_wh/us_obama_open_government

First line of the story "It's hardly the image of transparency the Obama administration wants to project: A workshop on government openess is closed to the public"

Thoughts? Wondering because it doesn't make sense to my why a workshop on government openess would be closed to the public.

Eisenhower's Forgotten Warning

In Eisenhower's 1961 farewell address, his warning against the military-industrial[-congressional] complex is well known. However, in the speech, he warned of two possible threats arising, the second being a scientific-technological elite. Here is what he said:

Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades. In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly. A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government.

Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers. The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present -- and is gravely to be regarded.

Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientific-technological elite.

It is the task of statesmanship to mold, to balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system -- ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society.

It seems that Eisenhower's fears have come to pass in the current furor over global warming where world leaders, including our President, are to meet this week in Copenhagen to agree to placing restrictions on economies over fears of a warmer world. The fact that the head of the primary institute cited in the IPCC AR4 for the surface temperature instrumental record was recently exposed as having issues with committing scientific fraud does not seem to have even given the conference attendees the slightest bit of pause is astounding. Perhaps it is time that we demand from Congress that they heed Ike's other warning.

Wolfess in the Louisville, KY area.

Hi, SF.

My name is Lauren, but I go by "Lady" or "Ouka" due to most of my online handles.
I am a twenty year old high school graduate, currently working in grocery retail to support my freelance art business. I would like to seek a degree in children's early education to become a kindergarten-gradeschool teacher, or to pursue a career in criminal justice. I know those fields don't correlate at all. Haha.

I love to spend my time drawing, baking, painting, sculpting, listening to music and collecting my little ponies. I love bold, bright colors, and I really am a girly girl at times.

I like to dabble in making fursuits, since it's another art form.

I absolutely adore 80's rock, and my favorite band is Whitesnake. My favorite current band is Blue October.

I am pretty laid back and really easy to get along with as long as you smell okay, and have respect for me. I am intelligent, and love to have THOUGHTFUL conversations. Seriously-- make me think.. it's awesome.

I have been in the fandom without knowing what it was called, since I was 10. I finally took on the furry label at the age of 13. My beliefs lean toward therian, since I have some Cherokee native American blood in me. I hold pagan beliefs, and I appear to be agnostic-- though I don't really have a fixed religion.

:B I guess that's about all I have to say about me. Feel free to chat away.

MFF Fox Hunt results

I am sorry this should have been posted earlier.

Due to some problems with the MFF fox, My fox, N9WEB/fox was used, and as a result. I ran the fox hunt both days.

Saturday The first one to find the fox witch was in one of the planters outside the revolving door by the main ballroom was Eagle Beagle in 6 minutes. Since it was found by everyone hunting it so quickly, under 10 minutes, I decided to run a 2nd hunt. The second time the fox was hidden under a garbage can in the con suite by the internet terminals. This time it was more or less a tie between Sparky Blue Fox and Eagle Beagle. Sparky was in the area first looking and was honing in when EB arrived, and both lifted the covering on the can together.

Sunday After finding a fursuiter volunteer, Slayer, who ran around for an hour with the fox. First to find him was Eagle Beagle, who just randomly walked by Slayer as the fox keyed up :). I let the the fox stay running for the full hour, and everyone tracked it over and over for the full hour.

And now for some bad press...

Personally I'm not really surprised given the overall bad taste this webcomic displays but still, it does annoy me a little. :/

Great Video from The Neo-Futurists!

After their amazingly successful performance of "Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind" at Midwest FurFest, The Neo-Futurists took a tour around the convention. They just posted a fun blog entry and video of their experiences.

Hopenhagen!

So, if we sign a climate treaty to cost us huge amounts of money and hamstring our economy, that'll make the planet safe from climate change, right?

No! says Mister Gore! That's just the beginning of the sacrifices he demands!
